@skalman#BSD has its troubles (esp if you want a fancy personal computing) but I think I have installed it only two or three times to start clean since 1990s.. It was always migration of the same file system from the old disk to the new disk. Last time I installed new ones was because of geli and zfs and also I got a smaller SSD so not all could fit. Still have all those old UFS hard drives! And it is a rolling update all the time, version to version, laptop to laptop...
@skalman They maintain a very high level of compatibility. There are even kits to run binaries from ancient versions. Also you can run ancient versions in jails on a modern kernel.
